It’s engagement season! I love this time of year! It’s right after the holidays and couples that got engaged are brimming with excitement! No matter how much time you have allotted to plan your big day, the best advice I can give you is to take the time to actually slow down and ENJOY your engagement. After all, you can’t get this time back. So here are three tips to help you enjoy the “Before I Do” time:

  1. Establish a No-Wedding Zone. This is mainly to help the grooms out. He gets it. You are SUPER excited and can’t wait to start planning. Right away, your wheels are spinning and guys can only take so much. If every time you both are together or talking, it’s all about the wedding – STOP! Institute a day or cut-off time each day when there is no wedding talk allowed and just enjoy each other. Trust me, this prepares you for married life. Because, you know, there is life after the wedding. And the more time you devote to just being with the one you want to spend the rest of your life with, the better off your marriage will be.
  2. Indulge in Celebrations! Once you are engaged, your family and friends want to celebrate with you. If they want to plan a shower, brunch, engagement party, let them! Heck, if you want to throw a party yourself, do it! Enjoy the attention! However, do NOT stretch yourself too thin. There’s always a delicate balance and as I’m often reminded, do everything in moderation. Key words here: BALANCE and MODERATION. You get the picture.
  3. Utilize your Wedding/Event Planner. This is a no-brainer. Your planner is there to take the stress off of the engaged couple. If you want to talk colors, centerpieces and cakes, call your planner. I’m all ears (wink)! Plus, your planner will already have the details on what’s most important for the bride and groom, so pulling them into any wedding convo is the most logical choice.
